NEW YORK (AP) — Shohei Ohtani became a two-way All-Star for the third straight year when he was picked for the American League pitching staff on Sunday, and eight Atlanta Braves were chosen for the July 11 game in Seattle — the most of any team since 2012.Ohtani was elected to the pitching staff by players 10 days after fans voted him to start at designated hitter. Ohtani appeared on the most ballots among AL players. He is the only two-way All-Star in major league history. “He’s very respectful. He doesn’t do a whole bunch of talking,” AL manager Dusty Baker of Houston said. “He comes to play, and he really handles the notoriety and the publicity with humility and greatness.”At the 2021 game in Denver, Ohtani grounded out against Max Scherzer and Corbin Burnes, and pitched a perfect first inning, retiring Fernando Tatis Jr. on a flyout and Max Muncy and Nolan Arenado on groundouts.Last year at Dodger Stadium, Ohtani singled on Clayton Kershaw’s first pitch of the game and wal...

It’s fun, and I think as time goes on, I mean I know it’s already a big sport, but I think it’s going to continue to grow, for sure.”Fields gave the command for drivers to start their engines from the press center after the start of the race was delayed by a historic amount of rain that flooded the downtown Chicago course. ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Missing their All-Star starter and slugger among others, the Houston Astros are still in a familiar spot: poised to win a series against their rivals and surprise AL West leaders, the Texas Rangers.Chas McCormick lined a tiebreaking triple with two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth inning, and the Astros hung on for a 5-3 victory in a Texas showdown matching the division’s top two teams. The win came about the same time left-hander Framber Valdez, who was skipped as the starter Sunday because of soreness in his sprained right ankle, and Yordan Alvarez were named to the AL All-Star team.Valdez isn’t expected to miss another start, and is lined up to be considered for that role July 11 in Seattle. Alvarez, who has an oblique injury, won’t be back with the defending World Series champs until mid-July at the earliest. The Astros are guaranteed at least a split of this four-game series, with the finale Monday, despite shortstop Jeremy Peña mi...

Horse rescue loses thousands of dollars after fields washed out

FOUNTAIN, Colo. (KDVR) - The owners of Dreamcatchers Equine Rescue in Fountain had major setbacks following two rounds of severe weather that ruined portions of a pasture and flooded a field growing hay. “We have kind of turned into a sanctuary," Julie DeMuesy, the CEO of the non-profit said, "when we rescue horses we usually get one or two who are adoptable and two who will live with us for the rest of their lives." Right now on their property, they have 72 rescue horses. Some of the horses come from feedlots, neglect situations or general rescues. DeMuesy said she and her husband, along with a handful of volunteers, help run everything on the property. “I grew up in Iowa and I have never been through a storm like that," DeMuesy said. She said on June 12th, they had heavy rain that caused Fountain Creek, a portion that runs through their property, to flood. Some of that flooding washed out a portion of their hay field. "That was the first part of the damage,” DeMuesy said. Colora...
