KERNERSVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Ex-U.S. Rep. Mark Walker formally entered next year’s race for North Carolina governor on Saturday, saying that he’s best suited to win the seat that has eluded Republicans for much of the past three decades, by attracting a diverse set of voters in the closely divided state. If elected, he said he would provide a bulwark to federal policy intrusions, promote educational opportunity and economic freedom, and protect families and children on cultural issues. He said he had a history, in both the pulpit and in Congress, of building bridges with unaffiliated and Democratic voters. He’s been known for his efforts to work with minority groups, particularly on funding historically Black colleges. Heat bring 2-0 lead over Celtics home to Miami as East finals resume on Sunday

MIAMI (AP) — Jimmy Butler is Miami’s leader this postseason in points, minutes, assists and steals per game. He’s the sommelier at team dinners. He’s the barista when it’s time for coffee. If all that wasn’t enough, he’s also the DJ.When music blares in the Heat locker room, Butler is almost always in charge. Could be gospel, could be Whitney Houston, could be Nickelback and — as it was after Miami’s 111-105 win in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals — it could be Morgan Wallen, whose song “Somebody’s Problem” has become a Heat anthem.Wallen’s song is not about basketball, though that’s completely irrelevant to the Heat. These days, Butler is Somebody’s Problem. In fact, he’s Everybody’s Problem. And the Boston Celtics are running out of time to find a solution.Game 3 of the East finals is Sunday night, with the eighth-seeded Heat leading 2-0 after stunning almost everyone but themselves by going into Boston and winning the first two games of the series — puttin...

The mentality is as cliché as it gets, but no less important toward what any championship-caliber team aspires for. “No days off,” rings loud and clear from the Lowell boys volleyball program. It echoes within a 100 percent effort each game. It echoes within the bevy of practices that pack a six-day schedule, as head coach Paul McCarthy only gives Sundays for rest.Even then, it still echoes.“One of my bench players (Kaeon Phon) sent me a picture of him at the laundromat and he said, ‘No days off, coach,’ ” McCarthy said. “It was very humorous. It was very light. … Everyone, we keep it light, and we just do what we do. That’s our motto this year, we just do what we do.”Part of the Red Raiders’ all-gas, no brakes mentality comes in hopes of succeeding even more than they did last year – making their first Div. 1 state semifinal appearance before falling to Westford Academy. So far, it’s worked wonders, orchestrating a 17-1 record with a loaded junior class that helps Lowell stand tall ...
